about

I got in trouble with Ella one day. Don't know what I did, but I guess I have a way of doing that from time to time. And it got me thinking about how we guys in general seem to get in trouble with the ladies, despite our best intentions. I started imagining that it must have been better on fellows in my granddad's day, and that led to this song, Tip You Hat Brim Down. As the song proves, it wasn't better for us then either!

lyrics

TIP YOUR HAT BRIM DOWN

Hey now. Oh my. Here comes Betty Lou.
Long hair. Long legs. Eyes that shine bright, too.
Oh, my Betty Lou, I’ll give my heart to you.
We’ll be in love forever, and I’ll be true to you.

Cause in this world we’re living
Filled with ups and downs
You can be so broke, so low,
Turned upside down.
So when you need a glimmer
To turn your day around,
Just see a pretty girl
And tip your hat brim down.

Hey now. Oh my. Here comes Lucy, too.
Short hair. Blond curls. Smile that shines bright, too.
Oh, my little Lucy, I’ll give my heart to you.
We’ll be in love forever, but don’t tell Betty Lou.

Cause in this world we’re living
Filled with ups and downs
You can be so broke, so low,
Turned upside down.
So when you need a glimmer
To turn your day around,
Just see a pretty girl
And tip your hat brim down.

Hey, Hey, Ho! All I know:
Everywhere you look there’s girls to see.
Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho! Please don’t go.
Won’t you sit and spend some time with me?
Please talk to me.

Hey now. Oh my. Here comes Mary Sue.
Short skirt. High heels. She knows I love her, too.
But oh, she looks unhappy and oh, she looks so mad.
Cause Mary Sue talked to Betty Lou
And Betty Lou talked to Lucy, too.
And Lucy, she talked to Mary Sue
And now I guess I’m through.

I’m in so much trouble.
