TIP YOUR HAT BRIM DOWN Hey now. Oh my. Here comes Betty Lou. Long hair. Long legs. Eyes that shine bright, too. Oh, my Betty Lou, I’ll give my heart to you. We’ll be in love forever, and I’ll be true to you. Cause in this world we’re living Filled with ups and downs You can be so broke, so low, Turned upside down. So when you need a glimmer To turn your day around, Just see a pretty girl And tip your hat brim down. Hey now. Oh my. Here comes Lucy, too. Short hair. Blond curls. Smile that shines bright, too. Oh, my little Lucy, I’ll give my heart to you. We’ll be in love forever, but don’t tell Betty Lou. Cause in this world we’re living Filled with ups and downs You can be so broke, so low, Turned upside down. So when you need a glimmer To turn your day around, Just see a pretty girl And tip your hat brim down. Hey, Hey, Ho! All I know: Everywhere you look there’s girls to see. Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho! Please don’t go. Won’t you sit and spend some time with me? Please talk to me. Hey now. Oh my. Here comes Mary Sue. Short skirt. High heels. She knows I love her, too. But oh, she looks unhappy and oh, she looks so mad. Cause Mary Sue talked to Betty Lou And Betty Lou talked to Lucy, too. And Lucy, she talked to Mary Sue And now I guess I’m through. I’m in so much trouble. © 2012 David R. Hedrick, Toppermost Music/BMI

ALL I ASK OF LIFE All I ask of life is to greet each morning. All I ask of love is to hold your hand. Though the winds of fate may bring dire warning, I have faith in God and the promised land. Billy took the oath one Monday morning With his wife Ginny standing by his side. Off to fight a war for God and country He smiled and said these words when Ginny cried. "All I ask of life is to greet each morning. All I ask of love is to hold your hand. Though the winds of fate may bring dire warning, I have faith in God and the promised land." Ginny struggled hard as each month passed by; Paid the bills and fed the baby at her side; Posted letters every day to reach her Billy; Sent her smiles to him though every night she cried. "Oh, my Billy, why did you leave me Just to fight in some foreign land? Keep him safe, Lord, please don’t bereave me." Then she’d hear the words her Billy said. "All I ask of life is to greet each morning. All I ask of love is to hold your hand. Though the winds of fate may bring dire warning, I have faith in God and the promised land." Billy charged the hill one Sunday morning; Fighting as the sun climbed in the sky. Falling as the cold steel pierced his body; Whispering to his Ginny as he died. Ginny woke astart one cold dark evening, Dreaming she saw Billy standing by her side; Certain that she felt his hand caress her And heard him whisper to her as she cried. "Oh, my Billy, why did you leave me Just to die in some foreign land? Oh, my Lord, why have you bereaved me? Must you take the hand of this dearest man?" Ginny buried Billy on Christmas morning, Praying as the sun climbed in the sky. All her friends asked her just how she’d manage. She smiled and said these words as her dear friends cried. "All I ask of life is to greet each morning. All I ask of love is to hold your hand. Though the winds of fate may bring dire warning, I have faith in God and the promised land." © 2012 David R. Yes we’ll go a-walking, bring your friends with you. Yes we’ll go a-walking, I’ll bring my friends, too. Yes we’ll go a-walking, drink a little brew. Yes we’ll go a-walking, dance a little, too. Jump down turn a-round hug the one you see. Oh my Maddie, be in love with me. Jump down turn a-round hug the one you see. Oh my Maddie, be in love with me. © 2012 David R. THEN YOU'LL BE MY BRIDE Oh my love, I have no means to provide for you so I must leave ‘til work is done then I’ll come for you. Oh your father said to me, “Boy, you are no prize.” But I will prove him wrong, you see, and then you’ll be my bride. Then you’ll be my bride. Oh my love, while I toil so far from your side, don’t forget my heart is yours and soon you’ll be my bride. Oh your father said to me, “Boy, you are no prize.” But I will prove him wrong, you see, and then you’ll be my bride. © 2012 David R. Hedrick, Toppermost Music / BMI

PLEASE TAKE ME HOME Oh my Lord, please take me home; my poor soul no more to roam. Seasons come and seasons go; the wind blows through all four. Nothing slows the step of time or keeps death from our door. Oh my Lord, please take me home; my poor soul no more to roam. Mother dear, I love you so; love my wife and child. I cry out to Him above, resigned unto my plight. Oh my Lord, please take me home; my poor soul no more to roam. © 2012 David R. Hedrick, Toppermost Music / BMI

UPPER BIG BRANCH SOUTH Met my Lisa at the Beckley Fair; prettiest girl I ever seen, Lord. Got me a job at Upper Big Branch South; asked that girl to marry me. Working for the Massey on long-wall coal air so foul it hurt to breathe in. Pay my union dues and mortgage my soul; sleep through the night without dreaming. Born into the journey of a poor man’s life; oh Mama, why did you conceive me? Followed my Daddy down the devil’s mouth; Lord Jesus, please reprieve me. Oh my wife, if these words I write are my last when you read them: Tell my children that I love them so; I dug black coal just to feed them. Born into the journey of a poor man's life: oh Mama, why did you conceive me? Followed my Daddy down the devil's mouth: I'm one of twenty-nine who won't be leaving. © 2012 David R. SAVE ME WITH YOUR GRACE Oh Lord, won’t you save me when I’m tired: Give me the strength to bear the pain. And Lord, won’t you save me when I cry: Please dry these tears on my face. All my life I’ve doubted you But I can’t hide from the truth. Yes, I know I’ve strayed, but Lord, Save me with your grace. And Lord, won’t you save me when I’m blind: Help me see the light of your day. And Lord, won’t you save me from all lies: Please wipe clean the devil’s trace. All my life I’ve doubted you But I can’t hide from the truth. Yes, I know I’ve strayed, but Lord, Save me with your grace. And Lord, won’t you save me from my pride: I pushed all my loved ones away. And Lord, won’t you save me from this life: I’ve been wasting all of my days. All my life I’ve doubted you But I can’t hide from the truth. Yes, I know I’ve strayed, but Lord, Save me with your grace. Copyright 2012 David R. Hedrick, Toppermost Music / BMI

WHEN I WENT TO THE RIVER Well, I went to see my mother but I saw my Lord. I went to see my mother but I saw my Lord. I went to see my mother but I saw my Lord when I went to the river just to see. I went to see my father but I saw my Lord. I went to see my father but I saw my Lord. I went to see my father but I saw my Lord when I went to the river just to see. When I went to the river, when I went to the river, when I went to the river, when I went to the river just to see. Well, I went to see my sister but I saw my Lord. I went to see my sister but I saw my Lord. I went to see my sister but I saw my Lord when I went to the river just to see. Well I went to see my brother but I saw my Lord. I went to see my brother but I saw my Lord. I went to see my brother but I saw my Lord when I went to the river just to see. When I went to the river, when I went to the river, when I went to the river when I went to the river just to see. When I went to the river, when I went to the river, when I went to the river, when I went to the river just to see. © 2012 David R. Hedrick, Toppermost Music / BMI

WHY DON'T YOU KNOW? Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Oooo, Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Yeah, Why don’t you know? When people passing by won’t look you in the eye, don’t you know? When people passing by won’t look you in the eye, don’t you know? There ain’t nothing sly about a man’s open fly, don’t you know? When you’re flying on a plane and the neighbors all complain, don’t you know? When you’re flying on a plane and the neighbors all complain, don’t you know? That your bare feet stink even underneath the seat, don’t you know? Why are all those Zoot Suits doing the two step? Can’t that girl see fondue dripping down her new dress? Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Yeah, Why don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Yeah, Why don’t you know? Why are all those Zoot Suits doing the two step? Can’t that girl see fondue dripping down her new dress? Well when your baby’s feeling blue she needs a hug from you, don’t you know? When your baby’s feeling blue she needs a hug from you, don’t you know? So don’t be surprised if she finds another guy, don’t you know? Why don’t you know? Oh yeah. Copyright 2012 David R. YOU SHOULD COME WITH A WARNING Oh you, will you love me in the morning? Oh you, will you keep me warm at night? Oh you, you should come with a warning! Something about your love just ain’t quite right. Well it seems strange that all these guys calling you on the phone, could be your second cousins and they’re just sitting at home alone. Hooh Hooh Hooh Hooh Yeah I’ve been wondering why all your friends wink and laugh so hard and it seems odd, you always ask to see my credit card. Oh you, will you love me in the morning? Oh you, will you keep me warm at night? Oh you, you should come with a warning! Something about your love just ain’t quite right. I must admit when I’m in love the world seems born anew. But maybe I’ve been a little blind when it comes to you. Oh you, will you love me in the morning? Oh you, will you keep me warm at night? Oh you, you should come with a warning! Something about your love just ain’t quite right. It must be tough – your working hours change from day to day. But would you tell me why your car tag says “Pay to Play”? Oh you, will you love me in the morning? Oh you, will you keep me warm at night? Oh you, you should come with a warning! Something about your love just ain’t quite right. © 2012 David R. HOLD ON ( PLEASE DON’T PLAY WITH MY HEART ) Hold On, don’t push it to the limit. Hold On, don’t tear it all apart. You know I love you, honey: Please don’t play with my heart! Hold On, let’s keep it all together. Hold On, let’s go back to the start. You know I’m yours forever, honey: Please don’t play with my heart! I’m sorry last night I stayed out too late, And yeah, I know it’s not the first time. I really wish I had something clever to say, But please forgive me one more time! I’m sorry I forgot the day we had our first date, And yeah, your birthday slipped my mind. But Hon, you know I love you and it’s never too late, So please forgive me one more time! And Hold On, don’t push it to the limit. Hold On, don’t tear it all apart. You know I love you, honey: Please don’t play with my heart! I’m sorry if I talked too much to your best friend, And yeah, I know I gave her a smile. But please believe that you’re the only one for me, And please forgive me one more time! And Hold On, let’s keep it all together. Hold On, let’s go back to the start. You know I’m yours forever, honey: Please don’t play with my heart! about

"Why Don't You Know", HEDRICK's second album, is an acoustic-based collection of 11 songs with electric and percussive accents, and powerful lyrical themes.

David moves from blues to bluegrass, from rock to gospel to country in this collection of original music. With his individual style he layers and blends notes from guitars, the banjo, keyboard, bass, percussion, and any instrument he can find or make, interweaving lyrics sometimes haunting, sometimes whimsical.

Ella sings occasional harmonies, adding a Tennessee / North Carolina essence to the mix, plays the bass guitar ("Tip Your Hat Brim Down") and the nyckelharpa.

Their music reflects the Appalachian culture and a variety of world influences yet continues to evolve with the addition of new instruments: a hammered dulcimer and nyckleharpa ("Then You'll Be My Bride"), interweaving independent lyrical melodies and vocals ("Maddie Sue Balleu"), and a hard-hitting gospel interpretive style ("Save Me With Your Grace").

David's music speaks of life: the relationships, the hardships, the joys. He uses elements of dialog and the impressions that remain to share the secrets of the songs: a young man and woman in love; the solemn pleas of a man newly conscious of unstoppable and irretrievable time; a fella asking for his girl to forgive him "one more time".
